Bethany has been such a tremendous value-add to our Legal Department. We have been changed indelibly for the better because of her. Having oscillated between legal and compliance roles, as in-house and as outside counsel and compliance partner, she has already earned a reputation of bearing a wealth of experience and talent in all things related to consumer finance in her relatively short career.
She came to the compliance side at Exeter Finance 5 years ago. She brought with her a fastidious focus and very quickly became a subject matter expert on just about anything the business threw at her.
Not only did she endear herself to our business colleagues (earning accolades and multiple promotions in just a few years), but she earned the respect of being a steadfast worker, analytical thinker, and problem solver among the legal team. With Bethany spearheading projects, even ones that required big operational and business changes, we knew they would be completed successfully. So, a few years ago when legal needed to expand the number of attorneys, we all equally agreed that Bethany would be a great fit and addition. That has proven even more true than we hoped.
Bethany transitioned smoothly from the compliance mindset to that of an attorney. She brought with her an unparalleled work ethic and the knowledge required to get to the right answer. She really goes beyond in meeting the needs of our business clients and takes rightful pride in providing solid, actionable and timely legal advice.
She continues to grow her areas of expertise and responsibilities and is eager to help when plates get overburdened. Bethany is a penultimate ambassador of the legal department within our organization, and she represents the company well in all external associations and memberships to which she belongs.
Plus, she is a very effective team member, mentoring (informally and formally) countless employees within and outside of the Legal Department and always available to bounce questions off her or to “nerd out” on a legal issue, as she calls it. I know I am not the only one made better for having partnered with, and learned from, Bethany.
Having had the opportunity to work with a number of great women in my legal career with all kinds of experience and expertise, I am confident that Bethany will one day be a “Woman in Consumer Finance Career Champion” (with more years under the belt, so to speak). Today, though, she is undoubtedly a “Move Maker.”
I hope to have the chance to collaborate with her as long as possible. Whether that happens or not, I am confident that she will continue to rise in the ranks and one day be a terrific leader of a legal department in the consumer finance world. (I only hope she’ll be a good boss to me then!)
